As one of the leading German trading companies for nuts and dried fruit, Nutwork Handelsgesellschaft mbH supplies the German and European food retailers with products from more than 50 countries worldwide.
We are aware of our responsibility to create sustainable supply chains.
We have high expectations in terms of protection of human rights, of both us and our suppliers. These expectations are set out in our Declaration of Principles on Respect for Human Rights (German).
Our core values of collaboration, entrepreneurship, quality, and responsibility are also reflected in our partnerships. We cooperate with stakeholders at national and international level.
The long-established Waren-Verein (Hamburg) has been a competent partner for political decision-makers and authorities for decades. Together, we promote sustainable supply chains and the necessary political framework. On international level, we are a member of the Sustainable Nut Initiative (SNI). The SNI is a precompetitive cooperation platform that brings together various stakeholders in the cashew supply chain to advocate for more sustainable cashews.
The sustainability of our products is largely determined by the actions of our suppliers. With this in mind, we have formulated a Code of Conduct for our suppliers.
The Code of Conduct outlines our sustainability expectations for our suppliers. Based on the World Bank's World Development Indicators (WDI), we assess the risk for all countries of origin on an annual basis.
Through a regularly updated risk analysis, we assess the human rights and environmental risks for all of our supply regions and partners. In case of identified risks, we engage with our suppliers and discuss measures to minimize them.
We recognize that despite all our efforts, violations may occur.
We assess the greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain, from raw material cultivation to our customers' logistics centers.
Our own production facility offers potential for reducing our own greenhouse gas emissions. Here, we have implemented specific measures to reduce our relative energy consumption.
Electricity: We use green electricity for the Fruitwork Group's entire electricity consumption. To reduce energy consumption, we have switched to energy-efficient air compressors and LED lighting at our production site.
Gas: Through a critical analysis of our heating needs and the electrification of our hot water supply, we have been able to reduce our natural gas consumption.
We have set our environmental goals out in our environmental policy.
We primarily use eco-friendly cleaning products that are consistent with our organic certification. This also helps us reduce the negative impact on our wastewater.
We are constantly working to increase our recycling rate in order to return raw materials such as plastic and cellulose fibers back into the cycle.
